Israel’s attacks on Gaza have been continuing since October 7. According to the data of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, 23 thousand 968 Palestinians, including at least 10 thousand 300 children and 7 thousand 100 women, were killed and 60 thousand 582 people were injured in Israeli attacks. A new development took place after months of Israeli attacks.
HUMANITARIAN SEARCH PROPOSAL FROM ISRAEL
Reuters reported that Israel proposed a two-month humanitarian pause in the fighting in Gaza for the release of all hostages.
“WE ARE WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM HAMAS”
AA reported that Israel conveyed the proposal, which did not include a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, through Qatar and Egypt, and that Israeli officials emphasized that they were waiting for a response from Hamas, but were cautiously optimistic that progress could be made in the coming days.
FIRST STAGE…
In the news, Israeli officials stated that if a prisoner exchange agreement is reached, it will be planned to release women, men over the age of 60, and hostages with critical health conditions in the first phase.
It was stated that the next stages will include the delivery of the bodies of female soldiers, non-military men under the age of 60, Israeli male soldiers and hostages.
Israeli officials were quoted as saying that, according to the proposed prisoner exchange agreement, Israel and Hamas will agree in advance on how many Palestinian prisoners will be released in exchange for each Israeli prisoner, and then separate negotiations will be held on the names of these Palestinian prisoners.
USA: ‘WE DO NOT SUPPORT A GENERAL ceasefire’
On the other hand, White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby evaluated the latest situation in Gaza and Israel’s attacks in his daily press briefing.
Kirby dismissed journalists’ questions about the increasing Israeli attacks in Gaza by saying, “This issue is the military plan of the Israeli administration,” and stated that, as the US administration, they support Israel’s approach to destroy Hamas, but Palestinian civilians must also be protected.
Kirby refrained from commenting directly on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rejection of Hamas’ offer to release prisoners in exchange for a ceasefire. Kirby stated that he could not evaluate the conditions and reality of the proposal and noted that the release of the captives was very important to them.
“We support humanitarian pauses to remove prisoners, but we do not support a general ceasefire. Our policy on this issue has not changed.” Kirby said that Israel is fighting against Hamas and “has the right to defend itself.”
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza had announced that the health situation in Khan Younis, in the south of the Gaza Strip, under Israeli attacks, had reached a catastrophic level and that many injured people were lying on the ground in the hospital corridors.
