According to official sources, more than 1 million people attended the protests against the pension reform held in various cities in France.
Many sectors went on strike across the country against the reform aimed at raising the retirement age of the French government to 64, and demonstrations were held in more than 200 points in the country, as well as in the cities of Paris, Marseille, Nice and Toulouse.
The demonstration in the capital Paris started in the Republic Square and ended in the Nation Square.
Tense moments and clashes took place between the police and the demonstrators during the protest. While the police used tear gas and batons, the demonstrators threw different objects at the police.
Along the route of the show, the windows of many billboards were broken and garbage bins set on fire.
The demonstrators chanted anti-fascist slogans demanding the resignation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
“THE GREAT ACTIONS WILL CHANGE SOMETHING”
Speaking to AA correspondent, the demonstrator Stanley Fidol stated that he was against the pension reform. Fidol said, “We carried out a great action today. Big actions like this will change things. There were too many people today.” said.
Across the country, more than 2 million people marched against the government’s pension reform, with 400,000 in Paris, according to organizers.
According to the data of the French press based on official sources, there were 1.12 million demonstrators throughout the country, 80,000 of which were in Paris, and 38 people were detained in Paris.
8 of the country’s most important unions called on the French to take to the streets again on 31 January. (AA)
