[Mis à jour le 12 juin 2022 à 22h14] We know the final results of the first round of legislative elections in the 6th constituency of Moselle. Kévin Pfeffer (RN) comes first with 30.58% ahead of Christophe Arend (ENS) at 22.13% and Jonathan Outomuro (NUPES) at 17.32%. Florian Philippot (DSV) is in 6th position with 4.62% of the vote, according to feedback from the Ministry of the Interior. The president and founder of the Patriots party will therefore not be present in the second round next Sunday, he who intended to bring his sovereignist ideas to the National Assembly had concluded “the Union for France” with Generation Frexit and with the deputy of 8th constituency of Essonne, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan. Together, they wanted to send deputies to 500 French constituencies after the legislative elections.
Former municipal councilor of Forbach, a town in Moselle, and former vice-president of the National Front, Florian Philippot was also a European deputy from July 2014 to July 2019. His last post was that of regional councilor for the Grand Est, a position he held for five years, from 2016 to 2021. In the meantime, he founded the Patriotes party, which he still chairs to this day. These elections are an opportunity for him to get back into the political arena for good and establish his party locally… But also to sit in the Assembly for the first time.
With Florian Philippot, they were thirteen to apply in this constituency which includes the towns of Forbach, Behren-Lès-Forbach, Freyming-Merlebach, or even Stiring-Wendel. If Christophe Arend, the outgoing LREM deputy, seemed on track to pass this first round, he has competition on the right: already beaten in the 1st round of 2017 by a far-right candidate, he is competing this time in a constituency acquired in the RN during the presidential election, with 36.1% of the votes for Marine Le Pen in the 1st round, and 56.3% in the second. A similar observation in most of the 9 constituencies of the department, which gave the far-right candidate the winner or neck and neck with the re-elected president.
To bring the RN to the Assembly, the candidate Kevin Pfeffer, the treasurer and member of the executive office of the RN, can also count on his position as regional councilor for the Grand Est. At the extreme end of the political scale, we also find Eric Diligent, representing the ideas of Reconquest!. These competing candidates were so many obstacles for a Florian Philippot who refused any rapprochement and alliance with Marine Le Pen and Eric Zemmour. He will also have to face Marc Friedrich, replaced by Michel Florsch for LR, and Christophe Mouynet, of Ensemble pour les Libertés, a diverse party with ideas substantially similar to his, in particular with regard to opposition to health measures (with a # balance your side effect) to castigate the dangerousness of vaccines.
They compete today with joined hands. Nicolas Dupont-Aignan and Florian Philippot, two politicians with sovereignist ideas, began their rapprochement some time ago. First, it was their ideological similarities that led them to speak out on the same subjects, from the importance of “freedoms” to France’s independence from organizations such as NATO or the European Union… Until taking part in the same demonstrations. At the height of the health crisis, they imposed themselves as the figureheads of the so-called “antivax” demonstrations. For his part, Florian Philippot encouraged the French to carry out a total blockage of the country, denouncing a “health coup” and justifying his actions by a love of “freedom”” and “Resistance”, drawing a parallel with de Gaulle’s actions in the face of the Nazi occupation 80 years ago. He continued his protest actions by participating in particular in demonstrations in support of the Freedom Convoy in February 2022.
Approached (according to him) by Eric Zemmour at the dawn of the presidential election, the former right-hand man of Marine Le Pen finally formalized his support for Nicolas Dupont-Aignan on March 14, after his failure to obtain the necessary 500 signatures. to present himself in the race for the Elysée. “It is the only candidacy which clearly defends freedoms, which says that there will never again be a vaccination pass or a mask in France. But it is also the candidate for independence, for sovereignty since he asks the French people the question of belonging to the European Union”, he explained at the microphone of RMC on March 25.
Florian Philippot is therefore a candidate in the 6th constituency of Moselle, that of Forbach, where he failed in 2017. He lost in the second round at 43.04% against RN deputy Christophe Arend (56.96%). Despite the distances he has taken with certain figures of the extreme right, the sovereignist does not compete alone in the legislative elections. Indeed, it is under the banner of the “Union for France” that he presents himself, under a party agreement with Debout la France, chaired by Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, and the Generation Frexit movement. “For the first time, the patriots, the Gaullists and the sovereignists are building a real dynamic of gathering”, to defend “public freedoms, the independence of France and a social model so harshly attacked by Emmanuel Macron”, had written Florian Phillipot in a statement published by Les Patriotes, his party. Together, they hope to present their candidates in 500 constituencies, which means competing with the RN and Reconquête!.
Symbolically, Florian Philippot chooses the date of July 14, 2021 to announce his candidacy for the presidential election of 2022. The launch of his campaign was organized on October 24, 2021 at the Docks de Paris, in Aubervilliers. He declared that he wanted to “defend individual freedoms” and promote his political values through the sovereignty of France and the management of the country’s social issues. It was as a candidate for the Patriotes, his own political party, that he intended to participate in the election. The creation of the latter in 2017 marks the end of his commitment to the National Front and Marine Le Pen. If he is not re-elected to the positions of MEP and regional councilor for the Grand Est, his media notoriety increases significantly when he opposes the restrictive measures imposed by the government in the face of the Covid-19 health crisis. Finally, this anti-European sovereignist did not manage to collect the 500 sponsorships necessary to stand as a presidential candidate. On March 14, 2022, he therefore abandoned this ambition and formalized his support for Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, preferring to support the sovereignist rather than the far-right candidate with whom he had more and more differences.
What are Florian Philippot’s political beliefs?
The sovereignist candidate from Moselle is used to divisive positions and speeches: it is thanks to them that he has stood out in the last five years, since he left the National Front. by Marine Le Pen. Indeed, if he had not been re-elected to the positions of MEP and regional councilor for the Grand Est, his media notoriety increased significantly when he opposed the restrictive measures imposed by the government in the face of the crisis. health of Covid-19. Moreover, he was a fervent supporter of the “antivax” demonstrations, which he sometimes organized, and denounced the alarming state of the country’s public health system.
Alongside Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, Florian Philippot stands out as one of the leading figures of the so-called “antivax” demonstrations, having himself refused to be vaccinated. He often encouraged the French to carry out a “total blockage of the country”, while denouncing a “health coup”. He justified his actions and his participation in these events in the name of “freedom” and “Resistance”, drawing a parallel with de Gaulle’s actions in the face of Nazi occupation 80 years ago, statements that earned him the perception of a conspiratorial personality.
In addition, the program he intends to apply if he wins these legislative elections is oriented towards an anti-European Union sovereignty, independent of the directives of NATO and the European Union. This is due, among other things, to his desire to leave the European Union, which he considers to be a dictatorial body, as well as to the end of the Schengen agreements. Finally, in terms of legal reforms, Florian Philippot says he is in favor of an irreducible life sentence for criminals and opposes a possible rehabilitation of the death penalty.
