Restaurants want compensation for loss of turnover due to wolf, but that requires a long-term approach

Restaurants want compensation for loss of turnover due to wolf

Emergency order

The Den Treek estate was closed to visitors on July 18 with an emergency order from the mayor of Leusden. This was after there had been several incidents with a wolf in a short period of time. For example, a dog was attacked on July 6 and a child was slightly injured on July 16 after a possible bite.

The province of Utrecht warned to avoid the area before July 18, but little attention was paid to this. That is why the municipality of Leusden decided to close a core area to recreationists and visitors until August 15. It is still unclear whether the emergency order will be extended next week.
