At the beginning of the week, the new government in Norrtälje municipality, consisting of the Moderates, the Sweden Democrats, the Christian Democrats and the Liberals, hammered through a substantial increase in politicians’ fees. This meant that the chairman of the municipal board, Bino Drummond (M), would receive a salary increase of SEK 23,400, from SEK 87,000 to SEK 110,400 a month. The decision has received massive criticism – both from opposition politicians and the municipality’s residents. Now Drummond backs down: – I think it is very important as an elected politician to primarily listen to what our residents say, but also to our group leaders from not least the opposition, he says. According to Bino Drummond (M), it was a case that was prepared too quickly and went wrong. – That is why we are now trying to change and do the right thing, he says.
