Resolution in works for Chatham Township man accused of attempted

A resolution could be in sight for a Chatham Township man accused of attempted murder after a shooting at a Wallaceburg-area trailer park.

Jamie Kelly’s lawyer, Frank Retar, told a Chatham court Tuesday that resolution discussions have taken place.

The lawyer requested a date for a judicial pre-trial conference to take place.

This has been booked for April 11 and Kelly, 56, is slated to return to court April 18 for instructions following the pre-trial.

Evidence heard during this phase of court proceedings cannot be published.

According to previously published reports, Kelly faces two counts of attempted murder after an alleged shooting the night of June 11, 2022, at Shiloh Park, a year-round trailer and mobile home park near Wallaceburg.

Shortly after, Chatham-Kent police laid an additional eight charges against Kelly, including two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of careless use of a firearm and four counts of careless storage of a firearm.

Officers responded to Shiloh Park around 11 pm the night of the incident after several witnesses reported hearing gunshots from inside the park.

Officers found that a home inside the park had been shot several times with a firearm, police said.

People had been inside the home at the time of the alleged shooting, but no one suffered any physical injuries as a result, police said. A suspect was located at 1 pm on June 12, 2022, arrested, charged and taken into custody, police said.

Two bullet holes could be seen in the window of a trailer in a lot on the edge of the park, near Bluewater Line. Another window in a popout of the trailer was also broken while police tape remained on the property.
