Resident Evil 4 Remake: Capcom’s over-ambitious project

Resident Evil 4 Remake Capcoms over ambitious project

One of the most cult episodes of the Resident Evil series is given new life with the release of Resident Evil 4 Remake. A new chapter that will be clearly different from its elder.

[Mis à jour le 01 février 2023 à 10h54] Would you like a little trip to Spain? The small village of Los Illuminados is waiting for you! Finally, this prospect will tempt you a little less if you remember your nights of dread in 2005, immersed in the heart of an uncompromising horror in the heart of the Iberian countryside. Because yes, Resident Evil 4 is back, Capcom continuing its policy of recreating the most significant episodes of the Resident Evil series, and riding on the success of the two previous remakes, Resident Evil 2 and 3. It is therefore now in the fourth episode of the license to be brought up to date by the confirmed teams of the Japanese studio, teams that the journalists of Game Informer went to meet to glean some information on this remake which promises to be profoundly different from the original game.

It was therefore the Game Inform teams who had the chance to take charge of the first chapters of Resident Evil 4 in Japan, directly in Capcom’s offices. They confirm that this next release is once again crucial for the studio teams who have already proven the quality of their development in two excellent remakes. And where Resident Evil 2 and 3 departed deeply from their elders by offering profoundly different gameplay while incorporating key elements of horror and intrigue, Resident Evil 4 Remake will be no exception to the rule. Although the original title is newer than Resident Evil 2 and 3, adopting a third-person camera, for example, it will undergo the same modernization treatment as its two elders.

Concretely, Capcom takes liberties with the original material. The first visuals of the game show us a darker, less grayish atmosphere, with more gory and overall more pronounced horror sequences. The combat sequences will also be more developed, offering Leon a much more developed arsenal and eliminating the QTEs that were the norm in 2005. On the scenario side, although we find the major lines that made the success of the plot of Resident Evil 4, Capcom claimed to have taken some liberties to modernize a well-known story and thus manage to surprise fans in unexpected sequences. It will retain a linear structure even though the areas of the map will be pulled together into a large semi-open world. On the visual side, we still hope that this remake will retain its light dusty western side which offered such disturbing depth to its daytime horror.

A trailer, a blog article, that’s what Sony offered us to announce Resident Evil 4. As we can see in this rather breathtaking trailer, the game has completely had a makeover. Note that we are talking about a remake here, and not a remaster. Capcom therefore continues its dynamic of re-offering us some of the most legendary titles in its collection. After Resident Evil 2 and 3, it’s the turn of four to rise from their graves to disrupt our nights. A game that we will find completely remodeled and readjusted to gaming standards in 2023. Capcom has also spoken about this new project:

Once again, our game is developed to reach the heights of the survival-horror genre in 2023, while preserving the essence of the original game. Our goal is to keep the game familiar to fans of the series, while bringing a fresh twist to it. To do this, we reimagine the story while retaining the heart of its making, modernizing the graphics and updating the gameplay.

In addition to providing us with the first images of Resident Evil 4 Remake, the State of Play also offers us its release date. The game will hit retailer shelves on March 24, 2023, and will also be released on PC and Xbox Series. A title exclusively reserved for new generations of consoles, unfortunately leaving aside PS4 and Xbox One owners. It will of course be found on PC and on Steam, like its predecessors. So, ready to go to the rescue of the daughter of the President of the United States in the confines of the sinister Spanish countryside?
