Resident Calls for More Public Meetings on Brantford’s offer Sports Entertainment Center

A Brantford Resident Critical of Plans to Build A New Sports Entertainment Center is calling for more public meetings to discuss the merits of the $ 140-million proposal.

Mark Dremak, in a Letter feels to Mayor Kevin Davis and City Councillors Said North American Government Taxpayer Transparency Standards Are Rapidly Changing. Constituents in Brantford are encouraging city council to rise up and support the new 2025 standard, he said.

Dremak Said Constitutions Are Requesting A Public Sports Entertainment Center Town Hall Meeting to Take Place During the First of 2025. It Should Begin at 6 pm or later and residents Should be notified Two Weeks in Advance Through Their Utility Bills.

The preceding for Town Hall Meetings was used in April 2024 to discussion of Victoria School Into a Housing Development. The Meeting was organized by Ward 2 Councilors John Sless and Gino Caputo, Dremak Said.

In His Letter, Dremak Said 100 Constitutions participated in that meeting and we are able to communicate their thoughts and invoic concerns.

“Past Mayor (Chris) Friel and Members of this Council Successfully used the same public commitment process at the Sanderson Center to Collaborate With Their Constitution Re: Potential Sale of Arrowdale,” Dremak Said.

Dremak, A Season’s Ticket Holder, Said He supports the Brantford Bulldogs But Believes a long Term $ 140-Million Commitment to Build In New Sports Entertainment Center Must included Full Public, in-person taxpayer, transparent process.

Dremak was one of Two people to object to the proposition at an October City Council Committee Meeting to Discuss the proposal. Councillors vote in favour of moving the project to the next internship.

More Recently, City Councillors, at a Feb. 11 Special Council Meeting, Voted in Favour Using A Progressive Design Build Process to Construct the Offerd Sports Entertainment Center.

The special meeting was held at 4 pm, a time when most people are likely working and unable to wait, dremak said in his letter.

Brantford’s Mayor Says The City is Dedicated to Ensring Robust and Meaningful Public Commitment as the Sports Entertainment Center Project Unfolds.

“As part of the recently approved Progressive Design Build Process, The Sec (Sport Entertainment Center) Project Design Team Will Be Regularly Engaging With Residents, Stakeholders Including Thorough Open Houses,” Davis Said. “Once a Final Design and Cost Have Been Determined The City Will Adhere to the Transparent Public Meeting Process Outlined in the City’s Processre bylaw.”

Davis Said the Process Will Allow Residents and Stakeholders to Provide Input Before Council Makes A Decision On Whore to More Forward With Construction.

Following the Public Consultation and Completion of the Design, Including the Final Cost, Councillors Will Receive A “Go or No Go” Report. The “go or no go” report is an opportune for council to decide to move forward with the project or back away from it.

Most of the Design and Costing of the Project is expected to be done by the Fall and plans call for public commitment meetings to be held at that time.

Plans for a New Sports Entertainment Center Have Been in the Works for More Than a Year to Accomdate the Brantford Bulldogs. The Bulldogs Moved to Brantford from Hamilton in 2023 and, as part of the deal, the city agreed to consider building a modern facility capable of accommodation of an ohl team.

The Bulldogs WERE BRAGHT to BRANTFORD by Train Owner Michael Andlauer Who Earlier This Year Sold the Team to Members of the Hyman Family Stuart, Spencer and Edmonton Oilers Star Zach Hyman.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed for a 15-year lease for the Brantford Bulldogs in Brantford with Renewal Options to extend the Agrement for Up to 40 Years.

City Staff Are Working with the Bulldogs to Finalize A Facility Lease and License Agreement Based on the Terms of the Memorandum. The Lease and License Agreement is expected to be presented to city council sometime within the next Two Months.
