Do you find it difficult to accomplish all your professional tasks each working day? What if you gave yourself a “reset day” per week or per month, a day where you will never be distracted, to move forward better?
Your professional “to do list” is growing and you are running after time to fit everything into your day? To avoid delays and refocus her work, a journalist from the British magazine Stylist revealed her technique: that of setting up a “reset day” at work.
But what is a “reset day”? (or “reset day” in French, but it doesn’t sound as good, let’s face it). This is a day when the employee decides that he is unreachable… in order to concentrate entirely on his work. So no more meetings, checking emails, notifications, and even calls. (While taking care to warn his colleagues all the same!).
During this day cut off from the world, the journalist admits to immersing herself in deep work, without distraction, and without interruption. And use this method once a month to make progress on important projects or catch up.
“My colleagues know that I am not reachable throughout the day and that I am in ‘deep work’ mode”explains Amy Beecham in her testimony.
Another liberating way of working
The “reset day” is not simply a new work etiquette, but a beneficial decision, both for the person and for the quality of the work provided.
“Reset days allow us to take a step back from the daily chaos and routine and give us the time and space to think more strategically about what needs to be done, what is problematic or blocking us and how we can address these obstacles”explains Emily Button-Lynham, career coach, to Stylist UK.
Thus escaping the multiple interruptions of daily life would have many benefits: it allows you to increase your productivity but also to release pressure, avoiding the stress of accumulating delays.
