In the Central African Republic, Michel Thierry Atangana and his association demand the release of the Frenchman Rémy Quignolot, imprisoned, without trial, for 14 months in the Central African Republic. Himself imprisoned without cause for 17 years in Cameroon, he now devotes himself to the defense of people detained arbitrarily.
According to the Central African penal code, anyone imprisoned for a year without trial must obtain their release. A new request has therefore been made by the lawyers of Rémy Quignolot, this former soldier and contractor in the security sector, arrested on May 10, 2021 in Bangui. The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention was also seized. Rémy Quignolot’s family calls him ” judicial hostage », victim of the crisis between Paris and Bangui, but it should not be forgotten, says Michel Thierry Atangana, joined by François Mazet of the Africa editorial staff.
” I know that at this moment he must be mentally, psychically and internally in permanent trouble. But a human being must confront his executioners by showing them his capacity for perseverance and resilience. The trial is marred, in its procedure, by multiple violations. The exhibits are in no condition to be presented in court and he cannot benefit from fair justice. What remains for his family is that we are trying, by all means, to save his life by getting him out of this hellish situation. If this human being is really seen as a danger, he should simply be expelled from the Central African Republic. He is not stateless. He shouldn’t even be in detention “, he explains.
