Republicans gain a majority in the House of Representatives

Donald Trump won the US presidential election, and the Republicans won a majority in the Senate.

As early as Wednesday evening, forecasts came from CNN and NBC that the party will also win the House of Representatives. During early Thursday morning, AP, which SVT uses for the result, confirmed that the win is a fact.

The chambers are part of the United States Congress, which is the federal legislative assembly of the United States.

A majority in Congress means that Trump has greater opportunities to get his policies through.

In the House of Representatives there are 435 seats, distributed in relation to the population of the states. To win a majority, a party needs to get at least 218 seats, which the Republicans have now received.

The Republicans also had a majority in the House of Representatives before Trump was elected president, while the Democrats had a narrow majority in the Senate.
