Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is considered the most significant challenger to former President Donald Trump in the pursuit of the Republican presidential nomination.
Governor of Florida, Republican Ron DeSantis has, as expected, run for president of the United States. He has filed an official notice of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission.
A certificate of DeSantis’ candidacy appeared on the commission’s website on Wednesday.
DeSantis, 44, is considered a former president Donald Trump’s as the most significant challenger in the Republican primaries. So far, Trump has clearly led the internal polls of the Republican Party, but the official candidacy of DeSantis could change the situation.
Trump started his own presidential campaign last November.
Five other Republicans have also expressed their candidacy for the presidency, including the former United States ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley.
DeSantis is set to launch his campaign for Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s live on Twitter on Wednesday evening local time. Musk says he is not specifically voicing his support for DeSantis at this time.
The Republican Party will finally decide on its presidential candidate in July of next year. The presidential election itself will be held in November 2024.
