Report Russia incites genocide in Ukraine Very serious threat

The report, compiled by more than 30 experts, warns that events similar to those in Srebrenica in 1995 may be seen in Ukraine. According to the report, there is already evidence of crimes in Russia.

Russia is inciting genocide in Ukraine and violating the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, say the North American New Lines Institute and Rauol Wallenberg Center.

The New Lines Instute is an independent think tank dealing with U.S. foreign policy issues. The Rauol Wallenberg Center is an international human rights organization based in Canada.

According to the report, there is an immediate and serious risk of genocide in Ukraine. Russia is already committing atrocities aimed at destroying the Ukrainians.

According to the report, it can be proved that Russia has committed mass killings of civilians, including in Butcha, forced deportations and the dehumanization of Ukrainians. For example, the president Vladimir Putin has publicly denied Ukraine the right to exist as an independent state.

– This is a very thorough study based on extensive evidence. We have found that the war has features of genocide, such as the expressions used about the enemy and the way the war is fought, says the head of special projects. Azeem Ibrahim New Lines Institute.

– There is no time. We estimate that the threat of genocide is serious.

Large-scale massacre as a threat

The report makes direct reference to the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, in which more than 7 000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed. The events lasted only days and were only fully revealed afterwards.

The same is feared in Ukraine.

– In 2022, we will be able to follow events all the time and act as they require, Ibrahim says.

The New Lines Institute and the Rauol Wallenberg Center have previously studied the repression experienced by the rest of the Rohingya people in Myanmar and the treatment of Uighurs in Xinjiang, China.
