“Repatriate them”, the call of associations to Emmanuel Macron

Repatriate them the call of associations to Emmanuel Macron

Many associations, Fraternité et Vérité, the Ligue des droits de l’Homme and Amnesty International, as well as personalities are asking the Head of State and his government to urgently repatriate the French children of jihadists and their mothers detained in Syria for several years. They received the support of victims of attacks and in particular of November 13, 2015.

In the middle of the trial of the attacks of November 13, the symbol is strong: the president of 13onze15, the association of victims of these attacks, is alongside the United Families Collective.

Our presence, we wanted it as a strong message. It is the best interests of the children that are at stake. These children are indirect victims of Daesh and radicalization. However, the prevention of radicalization is one of the goals pursued by our association.

Philippe Duperron, president of the association 13onze15

The families of French jihadists are demanding the repatriation of their grandchildren, nephews or nieces. There are around 200 of them, held for several years in the Roj and Al-Hol camps in terrible sanitary conditions in northeast Syria. The Kurdish authorities themselves admit that they cannot guarantee their safety.

While many European countries, from Germany to Sweden, repatriate the children of their nationals, France sticks at best to a case-by-case policy. But there has not been a single child repatriated for 16 months. The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, the defender of rights in France, all however ask that it take place as soon as possible. The European Court of Human Rights is seized.

Emmanuel Macron, re-elected, affirmed on April 24, that “the child protection would be at the heart of the next 5 years “. All therefore ask him to put his actions in conformity with his words.

Because for FIDH Honorary President, Patrick Baudouin, ” none of the reasons put forward by France so far hold. It’s just a matter of political courage “.
