Repairs to the power lines at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant have started – staff still imprisoned at the plant

Russia has taken over two nuclear power plants in Ukraine

According to Ukrainians, Russian engineers have also arrived at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

According to Rosatom, Russia’s state-owned nuclear power company, a Russian team has been sent to repair power lines, Britain reports BBC (switch to another service) on saturday. According to Rosatom, remedial action will be coordinated with the IAEA to ensure safety.

The power lines were damaged earlier this week and the power plant has not been connected to an external power grid. Although the plant has been out of service, electricity is still needed for the plant’s cooling systems, among other things.

According to the IAEA, the power plant’s diesel generators have been in operation since Wednesday and more fuel has been imported into the power plant held by Russia.

Since Russia took over the nuclear power plant, more than 200 technical staff members and guards have been imprisoned at the power plant and have had to work on the pipeline for more than two weeks.

Russia also owns the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, is also controlled by Russian forces. The IAEA has said it has lost contact with both the Chernobyl and Zaporozhye nuclear power plants in Ukraine.

Ukrainian nuclear power company Energoatom, according to news agency AFP, said Russian engineers arrived in Zaporizhia on Friday to “check the radiation level” and “help repair the power plant.” Russia has previously denied that the power plant was damaged by fire.

According to Energoatom, the Russians arrived because the Ukrainians had refused to cooperate with the Russians who had taken over the power plant. The Russian, who has introduced himself as the new regional director, has announced that the power plant is now in the Russian territory, which is managed by Rosatom. Rosatom, for its part, has claimed that both plants are operated by Ukrainian personnel.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm blamed With their Twitter account (switching to another service) Russia for several nuclear safety violations. He urges Russia to stop attacks on Ukraine that threaten nuclear security.

Both Russia and Ukraine promised to work with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to ensure the safety of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.
