On January 7, Rens will cycle on the Maatsteeg from Veenendaal in the direction of Rhenen. A black van arrives at about 80 kilometers per hour, Rens estimates. The driver doesn’t pay enough attention to him: the side mirror hits him full on the elbow. The impact not only shatters his elbow, but also his stem. The bicycle is uncontrollable and Rens falls forward on his head. “Fortunately I didn’t get knocked out,” says Rens. Three stitches are needed to close the head wound.
