Renault Scenic has sick range

The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric, the car’s full name, is a purely electric car unlike previous generations of the Scenic.

The model was launched in 1996 and 28 years ago it was time to electrify the successful car.

The Renault Scenic is not the first traditional Renault car to be launched in an all-electric version only.

First out was Megane E-Tech Electricthe criminally underrated electric car variant of the iconic (at least in Renault circles) hatchback.

Renault’s goal is to democratize the electric car. The French will do that by offering decidedly competitive prices in terms of range and space.

Scenic thus offers the market’s best ratio between price and range.

It also won the award Car of the Year 2024.

The Renault Scenic can be had with a range of 625 kilometers according to WLTP for just under SEK 550,000. In Spain I estimated the real range to be about 45 miles.

In terms of exterior, Renault has spiced it up with the new Scenic, not least if you look back at the family tree. With a wheel in each corner, the Scenic looks a bit sporty, and the location of the wheels also ensures a lot of space on the inside.

The infotainment system is taken from Google, which in other words means that it works almost flawlessly. The sense of quality is nothing that makes one drop their chin, but it is important to save where possible to push the prices down.

The back seat is spacious, even for the undersigned who is 184 centimeters tall, but there is no thigh support.

Our test car – with the big battery – was fitted with 220 French Cheuvaux driving the front wheels. It’s an incredibly reasonable amount of power, while the electric drive makes the Scenic decidedly lively.

Scenic also has an impressively low weight and is perceived as nimble. The steering is the same as in the Megane and is very direct.

The suspension is the Scenic’s biggest driving dynamic weakness, yet another area where you can save a lot of money. That said, the Scenic is rockin’ in typical French fashion. However, it does not like uneven roads and the suspension is sometimes jumpy.

The cabin is very quiet, something the French have focused on. However, one is a little deceived by the smooth Spanish roads.

New Renault Scenic focuses on democratizing the electric car with its sights set on the company driver and the family. It makes perfect sense and the impressive range – not least considering the price – is hard to beat.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the Scenic becomes a decidedly common sight on our roads, electric car winter notwithstanding.
