After leaving Netflix, the most popular film of all time, according to French viewers on Allociné, is returning to streaming on another platform.
The catalogs of streaming platforms change very regularly, so it is not necessarily easy to find your way! When a program is deleted from one, it may reappear on another. A real headache for subscribers. This is also the case for the highest rated film among Allociné spectators, which users of the site specializing in cinema therefore consider to be the best of all time. After leaving Netflix, it is now uploaded to Prime Video.
Forrest Gump has established itself as a huge classic of the seventh art since its release in 1994. It must be said that the feature film directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the future) brings together all the ingredients for success: a moving and didactic plot which traces the recent history of the United States, but also acclaimed interpretations from its actors. Generations of spectators have been seduced and consider it, even today, as a film that must have been seen in their lifetime. In 2011, it was also selected to be preserved in the Library of the American Congress because it was deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically important”.
This drama follows the story of a man, Forrest Gump, who waits for his bus and takes the opportunity to tell his life story to the other passengers waiting on the bench beside him. Considered simple-minded, he nevertheless lived through the greatest moments in American history since the 1950s: the end of segregation, the Vietnam War, the elections of Kennedy or Nixon, but also the hippie movement, the Neil Armstrong’s moon landing or the Watergate scandal and the AIDS epidemic.
Tom Hanks plays the lead role opposite Robin Wright (House of Cards), Gary Sinise (Of mice and Men), or Mykelti Williamson (Save Willy). In 1995, the film won numerous awards, including the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Direction, Best Actor for Tom Hanks, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Visual Effects.
At its output, Forrest Gump received positive international reviews overall, based on Metacritic (82/100) or Rotten Tomatoes (71%). The French press was a little less seduced, but Zemeckis’ production still ranks at the top of the best films of all time according to the opinions of Allocine spectators, with a score of 4.6/5. After leaving Netflix on February 14, Forest Gump is back in streaming, on Amazon’s streaming platform, from April 15, 2024.
