Remia is a family business that was founded in Amersfoort in 1925. Arie de Rooij started the production and blending of margarine and butter in his shed. The company name in full is therefore: De Rooij’s Elektrische Melangeer Inricht Amersfoort, or in other words: Remia.

The company moved to Den Dolder in 1951 and production was expanded to include sauces. In the following years, the manufacturer further expanded the range with liquid frying fat and liquid baking and frying.

Remia took over several companies, such as De Marne’s Fabrieken in 1995 and Van Dijk in Lopik (known for Gouda’s Glorie) in 2011. Today the family business employs around 500 employees.
