US President-elect Trump gave an interview to Paris Match magazine as part of his visit to Paris for the opening of the Notre Dame Cathedral on December 7. While evaluating international crises and the situation in the Middle East in the interview, Trump stated that their “priority” in international crises is to resolve the Ukraine issue with Russia.
“WE WILL NOT INTERFERE”
Regarding the situation in the Middle East, where Israel continues its attacks and the Bashar Assad regime collapsed in Syria, Trump said, “Middle East management is a less difficult situation.” he said.
Trump said, “There are so many crises in the world. We have received news from Syria in the past days. They will have to fend for themselves because we will not get involved. France will not get involved either.” he said.
Reiterating that their priority is the solution of Ukraine’s problem with Russia, Trump said, “These two countries are experiencing incredible human losses. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers were killed. The Middle East is also important, but I think it is a less difficult situation to manage compared to Ukraine and Russia.” he said.
As part of his visit to Paris, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski and French President Emmanuel Macron.
61-YEAR-OLD REGIME HAS BEEN OVERPLACED
On November 27, clashes intensified between anti-regime armed groups and Bashar Assad forces in Syria. Between November 30 and December 7, the groups gained dominance in the largest provinces such as Aleppo, Idlib, Hama and Homs.
With the support of the masses to the groups that started to enter the capital Damascus on December 7, the regime completely lost control in Damascus and many other regions and collapsed. As the 61-year rule of the Baath Party came to an end, regime leader Assad fled the capital.
On the other hand, the Syrian National Army liberated the Tel Rifat district center from the terrorist organization PKK/YPG on the first day of Operation Dawn of Freedom, which was launched in December.
With the liberation of the Manbij district in the operation, the region, which turned into the largest terrorist nest west of the Euphrates River, was cleared of PKK/YPG. (AA)
