The main topics of the bilateral summit were Russia’s military operations against Ukraine and Iran’s Nuclear Program. Ministers held a press conference after the private meeting.

“WAR MUST END”

In a statement regarding the military operations launched by his country in Ukraine, Lavrov said, “The Iranian Foreign Minister conveyed to me the wishes of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba that the war should be stopped as soon as possible. I can assure you that we are dealing with exactly that. We are stopping the war waged by the Kyiv regime against the population of Donbass for at least 8 years. This war must end,” he said.

Stating that they evaluated the situation in Ukraine with his Iranian counterpart, Lavrov said, “Of course, we talked about the situation around Ukraine. “I thank my Iranian colleague for understanding our security concerns posed by the United States and NATO.”

Reacting to the sanctions launched by Russia against them from the USA and the west due to their attacks on Ukraine, Lavrov used the following statements:

“That the so-called rules-based concept of ‘order’, the embodiment of injustice and double standards, trying to replace international law has been promoted by US-led western partners, above all about the illegitimate one-sided restrictions on ordinary citizens, which I mentioned earlier. We have common attitudes such as

“WE EXPECT US TO RETURN TO THE LEGAL FIELD OF THE NUCLEAR AGREEMENT”

Stating that they intend to sign a new international cooperation agreement with Iran, Lavrov said, “Our talks took place in a friendly atmosphere as usual. “We are working on the draft of a new interstate cooperation agreement, which the Iranian side has a positive approach to,” he said. Continuing his words, Lavrov said that they hoped to reach an agreement on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (KOEP) within the Iran Nuclear Program and said, “We have discussed the current situation in detail within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action regarding the Iranian nuclear program. We are in favor of resuming the full implementation of this agreement, supported by a United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution, as soon as possible. We expect the USA to return to the legal field of this nuclear agreement. “We expect the illegal sanctions imposed by the United States that harm not only Iran and its people but also other countries to be lifted,” he said.

“RUSSIA IS NOT AN OBSTACLE TO THE NUCLEAR AGREEMENT”

Abdullahiyan, at the joint press conference held in Moscow after meeting with his Russian counterpart Lavrov, said, “There is no relationship between the Ukraine crisis and the ongoing nuclear negotiations in Vienna. If we come to a conclusion on some sensitive issues that are expected to reach an agreement with the United States, the good and strong will be signed.” Russia will also support the agreement. Russia is not an obstacle to the nuclear agreement,” he said. Stating that Russia has a constructive role in the Vienna negotiations, Abdullahiyan stated that Moscow will continue its constructive role in the negotiations. Stating that they are waiting for the political decisions of the USA on returning to the nuclear agreement, Abdullahiyan emphasized that they have reached the final stage in the Vienna negotiations and said, “If the USA gives up its exorbitant demands at the last stage of the nuclear negotiations, it is possible to revive the nuclear agreement.”

“WE ALSO AGAINST WAR IN UKRAINE”

Referring to the ongoing war in Ukraine, Abdullahiyan stated that they are not in favor of the war and that a political solution should be supported. We also discussed the Ukraine crisis and the latest developments in this context with Mr. Lavrov.” Stating that the solution to the Ukraine crisis can be possible by determining the situation that led to the war, Abdullahiyan said, “We are against war in Ukraine as we are against war in Afghanistan and Yemen. . We support the diplomatic talks that started in Antalya between the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Russia. “The Ukrainian Foreign Minister asked me to convey to Moscow the message that the Kyiv administration does not want war and is in favor of a political solution,” he said.

At the end of the press conference, Lavrov said that he received an invitation from his Iranian counterpart to visit Tehran, “I received an invitation from the minister. We accept the invitation. We will agree on the dates soon,” he said.

The negotiations to return to the nuclear agreement between Iran and the 4+1 countries (China, France, Germany, Russia and England) in Vienna, the capital of Austria, were suspended due to Russia’s request for a written guarantee from the USA on Iran. In the last round of negotiations, the US administration responded to the written guarantee request from the Moscow administration as “Western sanctions have nothing to do with the Vienna negotiations” and accused Russia of taking the nuclear agreement hostage.
