What is Dune: Prophecy? After the box office hits Dune and Dune: Part Two by director Denis Villeneuve, Frank Herbert’s Dune universe is being expanded to include the sci-fi series Dune: Prophecy. Dune 2 was very well received by many. MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya even believes that anyone who doesn’t go to the cinema to see this sci-fi epic is missing out on film history.
The series Dune: Prophecy will tell the prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s films Dune and Dune 2. Dune: Prophecy takes place approximately 10,000 years before the adventures of Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya).
The focus is on the story of the mysterious order of the Bene Gesserit, a secret society of women to which Paul’s mother Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) belongs.
Good to know: The series was renamed from Dune: The Sisterhood to Dune: Prophecy in November 2023.

Who stars in the Dune series?
Who is directing the series? Johan Renck (Chernobyl and The Last Panthers) was originally supposed to direct, but after his departure in February 2023, Anna Foerster (Outlander and Underworld: Blood Wars) took over the role.
The series Dune: Prophecy is being developed by Diane Ademu-John (The Originals and The Haunting of Bly Manor). She is joined by showrunner, writer and producer Alison Schapker (Westworld and Lost).
Brian Herbert, the son of the original author Frank Herbert, is on board as executive producer. His granddaughter Kim Herbert is also on board.
Denis Villeneuve and the screenwriter of the Dune films, Jon Spaihts, are working not to Dune: Prophecy.

What is Dune: Prophecy about? Dune: Prophecy is about two sisters from House Harkonnen who, about 10,000 years before the events of the Dune films, fight against forces that could endanger the future of humanity.
To counter this threat, they founded the Bene Gesserit sect. Through hard training and targeted manipulation of bloodlines over many generations, they pursue the goal of creating an overpowering being called Kwisatz Haderach.
The series is partly based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune, which was written by Brian Herbert, the son of the original author Frank Herbert, and co-author Kevin J. Anderson.
