The police are now apologizing after wrongly declaring a woman dead in Malmö after a fire on New Year’s Eve. During New Year’s Day, relatives received new information that the woman is alive and the police will now investigate where the communication broke down.
– It is regrettable and unacceptable, we apologize profusely, says Carolina Adler, section manager of the regional command center south.
The police were alerted to the fire shortly after 6pm on New Year’s Eve. In the apartment, the emergency services found an injured woman who was taken to hospital. During the evening, the police command center received information that the woman had died and sent out a patrol to notify the next of kin. But the woman was not dead and on New Year’s Day the mistake was discovered. Where the communication went wrong must now be investigated.
