The floodplains of the Salmsteke recreation area in Lopik will be overhauled from today. The work is the starting signal for the long-term ‘Sterke Lekdijk’ project, which will take at least another seven years. The dike needs to be reinforced because it does not meet the stricter standards in 2017. “But it is not the case that people should immediately feel unsafe there,” says Els van Otterloo of the Stichtse Rijnlanden Water Board.
