Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz to continue at Wimbledon – dramatic decision in women’s singles | Sports in a nutshell

The reign of tennis is changing and Carlos Alcaraz has

The Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz defeated the Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the 4th round.

The reigning Wimbledon tennis tournament men’s singles champion Carlos Alcaraz made his way to the quarterfinals of this year’s tournament when he defeated the Frenchman in the 4th round on Sunday Ugo Humbert’s 6–3, 6–4, 1–6, 7–5.

The Spanish star, ranked third in the tournament, was in trouble in the previous round after having to go through five sets Frances Tiafoe against. Alcarazi’s performance against Humbert was also not very convincing: he lost his serve five times and recorded an extraordinary number of unforced errors (33).

Three of the service losses came in the third set when Humbert marched to a crushing set win. Even in the fourth set, Alcaraz had problems, but in the end he won the set and the match.

– Playing against left-handed players is always challenging. I played (a couple of weeks ago) in Queens my first match (on grass) against a left-hander, so I must have already learned something, Alcaraz reflected, referring to the Queens grass tournament in preparation for Wimbledon and his defeat Jack Draper against.

Jasmine Paolini has joy and sorrow

In the women’s singles, there was drama and eventually tears when a tie was reached Jasmine Paolini and ranked 12th Madison Keys were playing for a place in the quarterfinals.

American Keys led the decisive third set 5–2 and was on his way to the continuation, but injured his leg in the eighth game of the set. After that, the Italian Paolini leveled the set at 5–5, and Keys, with tears in her eyes, finally decided to give up because the injury was hindering her playing too much.

– I am really sorry for him. Sad thing. The match was really good, tough and varied. I feel very happy, but at the same time sad for him. Winning this way is not easy, described Paolini, who reached the quarterfinals of a grand slam tournament for the second time in his career.
