The improved bridge will include the reopening of all four lanes for traffic, the relocation of the pedestrian crossing signal, a shift of the sidewalk on the south side of the bridge and improvements to improve the safety of motorists and pedestrians at Ava Road and Brant Avenue .

A public notice issued by the City of Brantford said an analysis conducted by an engineering consultant of the project’s timeline, costs and potential impacts indicated there would be “significant savings in both time and financial resources” if the bridge was completely closed during the latter part of the project.

Full closure of the bridge will happen in early 2024. Detour signage will divert traffic while construction is underway.

The bridge work is expected to be completed by April.

The Ava Road Bridge was built in 1958 between Paris Road and Brant Avenue. Major rehabilitation work was done in 1985 and 1998. Further work was done in 2019.
