Region Uppsala appeals: Keep babies at home

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Parents in Uppsala county are now being asked to keep babies at home. The reason is the increase in the number of cases of RS virus.

“We now have a serious situation in Uppsala county and we are now appealing to the county’s residents to do what they can to protect the young children and limit the spread of infection,” says Johan Nöjd, infectious disease doctor in Region Uppsala, in a press release.

“For young children, under six months, an infection with the RS virus can lead to a serious illness with severe breathing problems. In addition, care is currently very heavily burdened,” he says further.

Johan Nöjd recommends that children under six months should be kept at home as much as possible. The recommendation also applies to older siblings who would otherwise have been in preschool.

The region will shortly send out a message from 1177 via SMS and e-mail to everyone who has given birth in the past year.
