Region Skåne is required to pay a fine of SEK 1 million for procurement

The procurements were worth seven and ten million kronor, respectively, and were made last year. They were not advertised according to the procurement rules.

The Swedish Competition Authority is now demanding from the administrative court that the region be fined a total of SEK 1 million – SEK 400,000 and SEK 600,000 respectively – in so-called procurement damages.

The region: Unforeseen circumstances

Region Skåne has explained that unforeseen circumstances during the pandemic made it difficult to carry out announced procurements. But that is not enough, according to the Swedish Competition Authority.

“That the pandemic entailed strains for business planning is understandable, but even in a strained situation, procurement legislation must be applied,” says CEO Rikard Jermsten in a press release.
