French curator Régine Cuzin stayed in Haiti from January 4 to 18, 2022, to curate the Vives exhibition at Maison Dufort, in the heart of Port-au-Prince. This exhibition produced by the Center d’Art with the association Quatre Chemins highlights the works of 25 Haitian women artists from the permanent collection of the Center d’Art and the Museum of Haitian Art.
Régine Cuzin is a specialist in overseas art. The French curator declares herself won over by Haitian art. ” There’s something going on here that I can’t explain “, she admits, speaking of the creativity of Haitian artists. She knows the Haitian artistic universe well. Between November 2014 and February 2015, she curated the exhibition “Haiti, two centuries of artistic creation” at the Grand Palais in Paris. Back in Haiti, this time as curator of the Vives exhibition, Régine Cuzin tells us her point of view on Haitian art.
In the Women’s Culture column, we present Pascale Monnin, one of the most notorious women artists in Haitian art.
