While Russia’s invasion operation against Ukraine continued on the 14th day, the number of civilians leaving the city reached 2 million. Civilians dispersed to many regions, especially to nearby countries, revealed the bitter face of the war. On the other hand, it was learned that the UK, which stood ‘upright’ against Russia from the very beginning and took clear decisions on sanctions, only accepted 300 refugees. This attitude of England was described as “Yes to war, no to refugees”.
MINISTRY OF INTERIOR ANNOUNCED
While the Russian occupation continues in Ukraine, the victims of the war, civilians, migrate to the surrounding countries to survive. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that the number of Ukrainians leaving the country has exceeded 2 million. Britain, which made the most fierce threats to Russia in the pre-war period and said that it would be behind Ukraine at every opportunity, announced that it accepted only 300 people out of 2 million refugees who fled from Ukraine. According to the news in Yenişafak, the British Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the number of accepted Ukrainians was increased from 50 to 300.
300 OF 26 THOUSAND PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED
The British Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that a total of 17 thousand applications were made the previous day, and approximately 9 thousand people could not complete the application due to lack of documents. The acceptance of only 300 people out of a total of 26,700 applications caused outrage throughout the country. Labor MP Yvette Cooper, who assumed the post of shadow Home Secretary, criticized the government, stating that the low number of immigrants admitted was “surprisingly low and painful”.
UKRAINIANS: WE ARE DISAPPOINTED
Speaking to the country’s press on the subject, Ukrainians stated that the paperwork was quite complicated, they faced many obstacles in the bureaucratic process and they were disappointed. In the pre-war period, many high-level political figures, from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to Foreign Minister Liz Truss, threatened Russia that it would “pay high prices”, and British politicians often shared the message “Ukraine and England shoulder to shoulder”. The fact that Britain accepted only 300 refugees on the 13th day of the war led to comments that the London administration applied hypocritical politics.
