Despite losing the title, he enjoys stepping onto the field. “It makes you fit, you’re outside and it’s very social,” he says. Isn’t being a referee a thankless job? “Sure,” Michael replies. “You can never do it right for everyone. But if both teams come to shake hands and they like it, even if they lose, then it makes my match better.”
