Quick beeper Reetta Hurske advanced to the World Cup semi-finals for the second time in his career. In the sixth heat, the Finnish paddler, who ran 13.09 in a small headwind, made it through the time trial.
The Finnish runner considered his own performance miserable.
– Bad run. Fortunately, it was still enough to continue. The minimum goal has been reached. If three tenths of that time is taken in the semi-finals, then another goal would be fulfilled.
Why was it a miserable run?
– I felt that I left the racks quite well. I just couldn’t get the pedaling speed in the fence intervals. Hard to say, but it didn’t really move as I would have liked.
The fact that he was the eighth best European in the preliminaries was promising for the European Championships. In all, nine European runners advanced.
Hurskee has a realistic chance of reaching the finals at the European Championships held in Germany in August. There have only been Finnish women in the 100m hurdles EC final Cricket Norrlund in 1969.
The games of the defending World Cup winner are over
There was a lot of drama in the preliminaries, with the US medal favourites Nia Ali mixed Alaysha Johnson failed in the preliminaries and thus did not make it to the next round.
Ali is the reigning world champion on the trip. Johnson, on the other hand, is in second place in this season’s world statistics with a time of 12.35.
– I ran with all the speed I have. I lost a bit of control at the end. My only goal was to reach the finish line, Nia Ali commented to Urheilu.
The other early favorites were, on the other hand, tough as expected. Last year’s Olympic quadruple, Nigeria Tobi Amusan rushed an exceptionally fast initial pace with a time of 12.40. This is a new record for Amusan.
Among the pre-favorites, the Olympic champion also made a splash Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (PUR), a junior ME woman who has competed several times in Finland as well Brittany Anderson (JAM) and adult ME woman Kendra Harrison (U.S).
The most convincing of the Europeans were Great Britain who ran 12.67 Cindy Sember and Poland Pia Skrzyszowska (12.70). The semi-finals and the final will be played on Sunday.
