The most interesting competition of Sunday’s Indoor Championships in Athletics turned out to be more dramatic than anyone could have expected.
In the final of the women’s 60-meter hurdles, the trip was finally made with the fourth start – and the victory was won by a wildly fit, who broke the SE time Reetta Hurske.
Hurske’s winning time of 7.83 was only two hundredths of the Finnish record.
– Yes, there were a bit too many departures or going to racks. You just have to focus on what you’re doing. It could have clicked away from the smooth start, but the run is going, I’m satisfied with that, Hurske comments.
However, Hurskee’s championship was only the first in his career.
– For a few years, I have not been able to participate in the SM halls, as they have overlapped with the international calendar. But of course it’s nice to win the Finnish indoor championship, that’s what we’ve been aiming for, Hurske assured.
Saga Vanninen ran the best pace of his career (8.25) and took silver. Saara Keskitalo also had the best time of his career with bronze (8.28).
For Vannisen, who focused on individual sports instead of the pentathlon, the SM silver was already the third SM medal of the competition weekend. On Saturday, Vanninen took silver in the long jump and bronze in the shot put.
Drama on departures
The first two departures were restarted due to thieves’ departures: first, he left too early Annimari Korte and on the next departure Lotta Harala.
Korte left the track without a murmur, but Harala disagreed with the too early start. He still tried to negotiate his fate.
– I jerked, but I didn’t start, Harala commented and the start was recorded on video.
– You can run under the protest, you have come to follow the situation in the background Nooralotta Neziri comment. Neziri and Harala have trained together and often appear on each other’s social media accounts.
On Saturday, Neziri won silver in the 60 meters. He is still recovering from his surgery in August, where he had a bone spur in his heel. In the fences, Neziri believed he would compete at the end of May.
However, Harala was no longer allowed to participate in the final.
– I went to check my reaction, and I was told that it was 0.0995, Harala told STT.
The limit for a false start has long been 0.1 seconds, and the practice has received a lot of criticism due to the increased number of borderline cases.
– Something should be invented after it has been studied that faster than 0.1 is possible, Harala said. A study by the International Association of Athletics Federations in 2009 showed that a reaction of 0.08 seconds is humanly possible.
The third start was also taken again, and in the end the final was run to the finish only on the fourth attempt.
Hurske at a good speed towards Istanbul
The European Athletics Championships will be held in Istanbul at the beginning of March. Hurske’s pace bodes well for the European Championships, as he was only two hundredths short of the Finnish record.
Hurskee’s performance also surprised the commentary.
– Huhhuh, on the fourth start attempt and 7.83. This is a wild mood to be able to repeat with the fourth starting attempt, Urheilu’s expert Tuomas Raja started
– He makes these runs time and time again. This time is such that when you look back at the European championships in the halls, even in this time a medal would always have been taken, and even the European championship would have been taken out of there three times! Oh my, it’s great that Reetan is going to Istanbul to pursue her personal first medal. A really hard performance!
Double champion Rinne
Won 400 meters on Saturday Viljami Kaasalainen got silver on Sunday for half the shorter distance.
On Saturday, he ran the SM gold in the 1,500 meters Joonas Rinne was the biggest favorite for gold at 800 meters. He withstood the pressure, although his time of 1:50.19 was almost two seconds short of the season’s best.
– It was exciting when there was so much to redeem in this competition, Rinne revealed.
Rinne was hopeful that she would be able to run in the EC halls. He is currently ranked 26th, when the top 30 get to participate in the European Championships.
