Reduction in speed limit on Wayne Gretzky Parkway approved in

Some drivers were started to learn that, as of July 21, the posted speed limit on Wayne Gretzky Parkway was reduced by 10 km/h to 60 km/h.

The change came as a result of a request by the Ministry of Transportation as it reviewed changes to the major road that include expanding the Highway 403 interchange in preparation for a new Costco Warehouse on the Lynden Park Mall property.

“The posted speed limit reduction of Wayne Gretzky Parkway was approved by Brantford City Council at its meeting held April 25 and is permanent,” said city spokesperson, Maria Visocchi.

She said the city supported the request for the change because it then provides a consistent speed limit of 60 km/h on the entire parkway from Colborne Street to Powerline Road and with council’s recent decision to reduce the speed limit on Powerline Road to 60 km/ h.

While some on social media complained there had been no advanced notice of the speed limit change, Visocchi said such notice is not typically provided for changes like this.

“Motorists are always expected to drive with caution, pay attention to current signed rules and regulations, and respond to changing conditions.”
