Red Dead Redemption review

John Marston’s unforgettable adventure appeared again. In our Red Dead Redemption review content, we look at the Switch version of the game.

Red Dead Redemption review : When we think of Red Dead, we remember the open world action game and its unfortunate character, John Marston, in the PS3 – Xbox 360 era, which handles the wild west theme wonderfully. With its mini-games, very nice story, wide open world and interesting characters, it made many players say that “there can’t be a better western game than this”. It wasn’t done until Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption review / Nintendo Switch

RDR, which was one of the best games of its time, that we are fighting against the zombie apocalypse on the same map, and the multiplayer mode, which was quite good for its time and followed in the footsteps of GTAV Online, did not receive the attention it deserved in the new generation consoles. Yes, thanks to the “backward compatibility mode” that came with Xbox One, it was possible to play the game with high resolution and higher fps, but the PC version never came. PlayStation owners, on the other hand, use the game boxes they keep as table weights in the hope of backward compatibility.

Red Dead Redemption review

Rockstar gave us an unexpected surprise and announced the next generation update of the game called “Rockstar Games Presents: Red Dead Redemption”. Of course, our dreams such as “Finally the game is coming to PC” and “I can now play with the next generation PS5 in high resolution and fps” instantly fell through, but there was one nice detail, the game came to Nintendo Switch! We refuse to comment on the Ps4 version of Rockstar, and we review the Rockstar Games Presents: Red Dead Redemption Nintendo Switch version together.

Old Notebooks Are Scattered

I would like to briefly talk about the story of a game that was released exactly 13 years ago. Our character seems to be a man living peacefully with the John Marston family, but he is a former gang member and a wanted outlaw. State officials make him an offer, clear out the ex-gang members for us, and we’ll leave you and your family alone.

Red Dead Redemption review

Red Dead Redemption has a story progression in the classic Rockstar mission logic. You can race around the open world as you please (both metaphorically and literally), and when you reach the people involved, you complete the main and side quests, almost all of which are carefully prepared. The story of the game, the events and characters we encounter are still more magnificent. We were in the USA in 1900, a lot of events that we would say “no more” if we see them now are free at that time, the laws are just beginning to settle. Rockstar reflects this period in a wonderful way and leaves us in a great story.

I don’t want to talk more about the story, but only the question on the minds of those who played the 2nd game is “Is the story better than the 2nd game?” it could be. Although Red Dead Redemption had a great story, well presented and engaging characters, Arthur was a great character and there’s nothing like his story. But the story of John, our first tear, is also pretty good, if not as good as Arthur. I wish Rockstar had brought the rightful Remake of this game and included Arthur’s influences.

Red Dead Redemption review

In the 2010s, there was a fashion to add zombie add-ons to games, and Red Dead Redemption is one of these games. The zombie experience was brought to the game with a shorter and compact add-on called Undead Nightmare, which is shorter than the original game. It is a fun adventure where we try to solve the events by taking down the zombies to save our bitten family. It is completely independent from the main story and has a story that I would definitely recommend you try. I didn’t want to pass without mentioning this.

We Have a Duel at Lunchtime

It had a very impressive open world back in the Red Dead Redemption era, even now it has more content than most open world games. We travel around the Wild West with our horse, perform tasks, and intervene in random events that we come across, upon request. There are activities such as animals we can hunt, bandits we can chase to get the bounty on their heads, and protection missions. We can also lose money (and fingers) quickly by playing games such as poker or stabbing at the bar. I forgot how to play poker.

Red Dead Redemption review

The game’s combat system is still good enough to not be disturbing. I didn’t have much trouble fighting the enemies, I fought very easily even on horseback. Duels, which was one of the most praised features of the game in its period, is still a more tiring feature for me. We can aim comfortably thanks to the feature called Dead Eye, which slows down time, but it is a bit of a problem with the controller that it automatically chooses the point to hit. Many bandits that I wanted to shoot the gun in his hand without killing him turned into a colander before my eyes. Which brings me a question, why is there no gyro feature?

While porting the game for Nintendo Switch, they never touched the controls, Marston moves quite clumsily. Constantly pressing and pulling the button to ride/run the horse fast is not a problem in the controller, but when doing it with joy-con, the thought of “it will break after a while” occurred to me. There is no gyro controller feature added on top of it. Would it be bad if we used it while aiming, if we were one step closer to aiming with the mouse we dream of. A missed opportunity.

Red Dead Redemption review

The more redundant the PlayStation 4 version of Red Dead Redemption looks to me, the better the Nintendo Switch version looks. The Wild West is not a very densely populated place, and almost everything we see in the vicinity is well-detailed and looks beautiful. The colors in the original game have been slightly adjusted and some improvements have been made to shading. The graphics look pretty good, especially if you’re playing handheld. When you use it with the dock, as the resolution increases, you see more clearly that the game is old. You may notice that some clothes and floor coverings are in low resolution, I wouldn’t even notice if I didn’t look specifically.

According to a game released in 2010, Red Dead Redemption, which looks pretty good especially if you play handheld, has also done a successful job in terms of performance. We have a nice game with 1080p resolution with the game dock and 720p resolution with 30 fps in the hand, running smoothly, without annoying problems such as loading time and disappearing coatings. Moreover, it includes the Undead Nightmare additional package in the 11.4GB port.

Red Dead Redemption review

I don’t see the need to elaborate on issues such as Red Dead Redemption’s sound and voice-over quality and music, they are all great.

Conclusion

Red Dead Redemption has aged so well that if they release it as a new game for the Nintendo Switch, I would praise it profusely, even if I had to say some points. I’m also thinking about Game Freak’s last Pokemon disaster, and I’m looking at this game and look at the difference. Red Dead Redemption is the second-best Wild West-themed game you can play, and the only one on Nintendo Switch. It is a great choice for those who have played before but want to experience it again and for those who are just starting out. Even the task of driving the animals that appear in our dreams remains the same, which I can also consider as a minus. Moreover, we experience the game with almost the full package. We cannot see the multiplayer mode of the game, which was very nice for its time, in the renewed version.

When I think about the biggest problem of Rockstar Games Presents: Red Dead Redemption, the first answer that comes to my mind is “Price”. Would I be willing to pay $50 for a game with almost no enhancements, no visual difference, even removing the previously available online mode?

Red Dead Redemption review

If you want to experience Red Dead Redemption, I can recommend the Nintendo Switch version of the game. Although I think its price is high compared to the improvements it offers, and a price of 30 dollars would be more appropriate, it will not make you regret playing with its portable gaming experience and problem-free port. If you want to play in front of the TV with better graphics via XboxThanks to backward compatibility, you can play the game with higher resolution and smoother performance, and at a much cheaper price.
