Recycled polyurethane foam for noise isolation

Recycled polyurethane foam for noise isolation

Whether you are working at home or wanting to rest, there is nothing more unpleasant than hearing noises coming from a neighboring room. To reduce the transmission of these noise pollution, Recticel offers Simfocor, an acoustic insulation made from recycled polyurethane foams.

[EN VIDÉO] Silent Partner suppresses the noise of snoring
Over 40, 40% of women and 60% of men are episodic snorers. Fortunately, to deal with this annoyance there is Silent Partner, an amazing system that uses active sound cancellation to eliminate noise. Here it is on video.

A new sound insulation is coming to the market. Available in 45 millimeters thick, Simfocor fits perfectly into themetal frame drywall. In order to comply with fire safety requirements, the latter must be covered with a plasterboard wall cladding 12.5 mm (BA13). To be quiet, this new insulating panel provides, according to the manufacturer, a reduction in airborne noise of 8 dB, ie an attenuation of noise by 84%. Compared to glass wool or the Rockwool, naturally phonic and thermal by the composition, this insulation which received the 2021 innovation prize Inoha displays substantially equivalent thermal performance (R 1.05 m2 K / W, λ 0.041 W / mk). However, if this product is certified ISO 9001, it does not have the Acermi certification.

Simple and easy implementation

The realization of a partition on a metal frame is identical regardless of the insulation used. The insulating panels are simply inserted vertically between the studs of the partition. However, the manufacturer recommends:

  • store the insulating panels 48 hours in the room before installation;
  • orient the veil non-woven towards oneself during installation;
  • cut the insulating panels using a cutter;
  • add a centimeter to the desired length so that the panels are held together by compression;
  • check that the panels are perfectly contiguous with each other and with the studs of the framework.

A responsible material

Recticel’s Simfocor sound insulation incorporates more than 70% of foams of recycled polyurethane (PU). A design that is part of a global environmental approach initiated by the manufacturer since 2016.

In addition to building insulation, polyurethane is used in a large number of industrial sectors (automobiles, household appliances, etc.). In order to preserve the environment, this material from petrochemicals, is recycled. The waste products are now valued by being, as in the present case, recycled or incinerated to produce electricity.

Available in DIY superstores (GSB) from December 2021, this sound insulation is offered at just over € 7 / m2. An accessible alternative to mineral wools but limited in its use to dividing partitions.

What you must remember

  • This Simfocor sound insulation can reduce airborne noises (music, discussion, etc.) which circulate between two rooms.
  • The acoustic efficiency of this insulation received the 2021 Inoha (industrialists of new habitat) innovation award.
  • Insulating panels can be installed in new buildings as well as in renovations.
