In 2018, the Premier League clubs spent 430 million pounds – roughly SEK 5.5 billion in today’s currency – on new players.
The record stood for five years.
When the last transfer window was summed up, by the audit firm Deloitte, it turned out that the clubs recruited for significantly more than that.
815 million pounds, just over SEK 10 billion, was spent on players to sharpen the squads for the rest of the season.
Chelsea was responsible for the most expensive signing.
They got rid of Enzo Fernández, who last winter won the World Cup with Argentina in Qatar, from Benfica – and are said to have had to pay a whopping 121 million euros, almost SEK 1.4 billion, for the 22-year-old.
The deal is said to be the highest sum to date in English football.
