All is well for the big French bosses. In 2021, their remuneration peaked at 7.9 million euros on average, according to a report by the firm Proxinvest. Impressive increases compared to before Covid, unheard of for fifteen years.
The bosses of companies listed on the CAC 40 earn on average 100 times more than their employees. This is a first, according to the Proxinvest firm which produces a report where millions of euros rain.
The remuneration of Bernard Charlès of Dassault Systèmes is estimated at 44.million euros. That of François-Henri Pinault of the luxury group Kering – which notably owns Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent – amounts to 12 million euros.
Carlos Tavares effect
The prize goes to Carlos Tavares, the boss of the automobile group Stellantis. His remuneration amounts to 66.7 million euros.
The Proxinvest firm takes into account all the elements of remuneration: the fixed, the annual bonuses, the attributions of valued shares but also the benefits in kind. These stratospheric remunerations are explained by the good results of the companies in 2021 with the economic recovery.
But they sometimes have trouble getting through, even with shareholders. Those of Stellantis had for example rejected the remuneration of Carlos Tavares last April. But in the Netherlands where the company is based, this shareholder vote is purely advisory.
Over the 2014-2021 period, the average compensation of French group managers increased by 84%. Three times faster than that of employees
