The number of homeless people in the United States rose to record levels this year, according to a government report released Friday.
In January of this year, about 653,000 people were homeless across the United States, an increase of 12 percent compared to the previous year and the highest figure since counting began in 2007, according to the authority behind the report. The number of homeless families with children increased by 16 percent.
California has the largest homeless population, followed by New York, Florida and Washington.
