Last year, the number of wildlife accidents increased sharply in Sweden, making 2024 a record year according to figures from the National Wildlife Accident Council, reports Swedish hunting.

Over 77,000 wildlife accidents in 2024
In 2024, the National Wildlife Accident Council registered 77,003 in traffic. The figure combines the figures for both road and rail traffic.
This can be compared with the corresponding figure for 2023, which was 71,259 wildlife accidents. This is an increase of just over 8 percent.
The number of wildlife accidents has increased sharply in recent years. Since 2020, the increase has been close to 25 percent.

These animals are usually involved
The absolute majority of reported wildlife accidents concern deer. In 2024, a total of 52,176 accidents involving deer were reported in Sweden.
The wild boar, on the other hand, accounts for the largest increase in 2024, with 10,381 reported accidents during the year after an increase of 10,381 reported accidents compared to 2023.
Accidents involving predators have been relatively stable in recent years. In 2024, 2 accidents with wolverines, 17 with bears, 18 with wolves and 52 with lynx were reported.

Increased accidents with moose
Game accidents involving moose are also increasing, even though the Swedish moose population has decreased in population in recent years.
The reason for the reduced population in the moose tribe is a deliberate strategy to reduce the number of moose through hunting.
In 2024, 6,771 accidents involving moose were reported.
In 2023, the same figure was 6,446 accidents, and in 2022 the figure was 5,848 accidents.
