Record-expensive sports holiday trips – every tenth family takes out unsecured loans

The sports holiday has just started and many families with children are in the mountains to go skiing. According to calculations from Länsförsäkringar, a family with two adults and two children can cough up around SEK 40,000 for the mountain holiday – which is a doubling in just ten years.

– The lift ticket is probably what has become very expensive, says Robert Wedin, on the ski slope in Åre.

– It feels like not just anyone can go on a skiing holiday. It’s a little different to my childhood or 20s, says Josefine Domargård.

Borrowing to travel

A recent survey shows that four out of ten Swedish families with children will travel during the sports holiday. But it also turns out that eight percent of families with children, i.e. close to every tenth family, took out a blank loan, a bank loan with a higher interest rate, to finance activities such as a sports holiday trip.

Among single people with children, 24 percent state that they took out a loan to be able to afford to go away.
