The three people – two men and a woman – were arrested early Friday morning in a small town outside Umeå. The discovery of narcotics was made during a so-called LPK control where customs looked for excise goods such as tobacco and alcohol.
– The check was done in collaboration with the police, says Martin Höglund without wanting to say why the check was done right then and there. He assesses a sensitive investigative situation.
Six people were recently on trial at Umeå district court after the police found around 20 kilos of narcotics in a home in Böleäng. This was until now the largest drug seizure in Västerbotten County.
Biggest seizure to date
– Historically speaking, this is the largest seizure that has been made in this area of Sweden. The seizure is record-breaking, notes Martin Höglund.
The arrested persons have been remanded in custody. Two of them (a man aged 25 and a woman aged 40) are suspected of particularly serious drug offenses and particularly serious drug smuggling. The third person (a man in his 40s) is suspected of attempted particularly serious drug offences.
One of the men lives in the Stockholm area. The other two people are German citizens. Arrest hearings will be held on Friday.
