The US has received the highest bill so far for climate disasters.
Last year, the final sum was a multi-billion dollar deal.
There were 28 disasters that destroyed values worth the equivalent of ten billion kroner, the highest figure since the authorities began keeping statistics on them 40 years ago. That number can still rise by several billions – damage is still being discovered, writes the British The Independent.
Extremely hot and dry
The biggest costs were after the drought and extreme heat that hit the South and Midwest that lasted for six months last year.
At least 492 people died in the 28 different disasters, according to the US weather agency NOAA.
