Sarnia police seized a record amount of pure fentanyl in Sarnia during a late Thursday drug bust, impounding $53,000 worth of drugs and currency.
Officers executed a warrant on a vehicle at 11:36 pm on Walnut Street, police said.
One of the two suspects inside tried to run while the other tried to drive away before crashing into an unmarked police vehicle, police alleged.
The suspect who ran reportedly struggled with police before being arrested, police added.
The driver was arrested, and there were no injuries, police said.
A second warrant was also executed at an address in the 400 block of Wellington Street, police said.
Seized were 122.3 grams of uncut fentanyl that police said is drastically more potent than cut fentanyl, 0.55 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 287 grams of marijuana, 1.01 grams of cut fentanyl, 72.21 grams of cocaine, and $7,220 in Canadian currency, police said.
The amount of uncut fentanyl seized had the potential to produce more than one-kilogram of fentanyl when mixed with a precursor, police said.
Derrick Michael Peachey, 40, of Sarnia was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, drug possession and resisting arrest.
Hengli Hoang, 26, of Toronto was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession for the purpose of selling cannabis contrary to the Cannabis Act, possession of property obtained by crime with a value more than $5,000, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle .
Both were held pending a bail hearing, police said.
Citizen helps with arrest: police
A citizen helped an officer arrest a suspect Thursday afternoon, police say.
The officer was making an arrest after the suspect allegedly punched a store clerk on Quinn Drive around 3 pm, police said.
The accused reportedly became combative towards the lone officer, so a passerby assisted with the arrest, police said.
“The Sarnia Police Service and the officer would like to thank the good Samaritan who rendered their assistance,” police said in a news release. “Working together as a community ensures the safety and well-being of all.”
Kelsey Lynn Saar, 30, of Sarnia was charged with assault and resisting a peace officer.
She remains in custody pending a bail hearing, police said.
Drivers arrested after collisions: OPP
On Aug. 2 at 6:30 pm, Lambton OPP were notified of a single-vehicle collision on King Street in Forest.
The driver, police learned, was reportedly prohibited from driving and was arrested.
Jason Moodie, 35, of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation was charged with operation while prohibited.
The following day, provincial police responded to a collision involving a parked car on Warwick Street in Warwick Township, police said.
The driver displayed signs of impairment, was arrested, and provided breath samples above the legal limit, police alleged.
Donna Thomson, 65, of Warwick Township faces impaired driving charges.
