In Albania, two reception centers for asylum seekers arriving in Italy have been opened on Friday, reports news agency Reuters.
The centers are part of an agreement between the two countries, according to which asylum seekers are transported from Italy to Albania for detention while they wait for an asylum decision or return to their home country.
– From today onwards, the centers will be operational and ready to receive asylum seekers, a Reuters official source, who remains anonymous, said on Friday.
Last November, Albania and Italy signed an agreement regarding the reception of asylum seekers arriving in Italy across the Mediterranean.
About 500 Italians will work in the centers.
