RECAP: Nathaniel Veltman given terrorism designation at sentencing

Veltman, 23, who was convicted of four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder for the deaths of a London Muslim family on June 6, 2021, is being sentenced in the Superior Court of Justice in London.

Veltman will be sentenced to mandatory life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years for the deaths of Talat Afzaal, 74, Salman Afzaal, 46, Madiha Salman, 44, and Yumnah Afzaal, 15.

Early in her decision Thursday, Regional Senior Justice Renee Pomerance announced Veltman’s actions constituted terrorist activity.

She is also expected to sentence Veltman for the attempted murder of a nine-year-old boy, the son of Salman Afzaal and Madiha Salman, who was left seriously injured and orphaned when Veltman drove his pickup truck into the family while they were out for a walk.
