The toilet situation at Bälinge school is special – sometimes the children themselves have to act as “toilet attendants” for each other at school in order to do their needs in peace.
– It sounds so loud when you flush that some don’t dare. Then there is poop until the next one, says Eivy Almqvist, who is in the third grade at the school.
In the clip above, she and her friend Lova Ringefors show how the toilet situation is at Bälinge school.
The school is so worn out that two new schools are to be built in the village, which UNT have reported on.
However, the buildings will not be ready until 2030 at the earliest, which means that the children who attend the school today will not be able to use it.
Over 700 signatures
School staff have written to the education administration about their concern and frustration, among other things it is believed that their “professionalism is trivialized and questioned” and that the children who go to school today should also have the right to a reasonable and safe working environment.
A petition has also been started for politicians to arrange a “safe, secure and hygienic working environment” at the school.
The municipal council: “Deeply regrettable”
The chairman of the board of education Eva Christiernin (S) tells SVT that a plan has now been drawn up for how the school should be refreshed and how the toilets should be flushed more often.
– I deeply regret that they are in this situation, she says.
– But if we were to put modules, they would be forced to stand where the new school is being built, and then it cannot be built.
