Critics didn’t like Zack Snyder’s latest film. Variety spoke with Rebel Moon writer Kurt Johnstad. It cited its current Rotten Tomatoes score of 24%. The screenwriter stated the following:

“I don’t read reviews, I never have before. The critic has a job to do. We live in a democracy. So everyone has the right to vote,” Johnstad told Variety. “If people watch the movie; they will have an experience and they will either enjoy it or they won’t. Just like ice cream varieties. In my 20-year career doing this job, the criticism I have received has never equaled my performance. “A movie either succeeds or it doesn’t.”

“People will love the movie or become attached to it. “I think what this movie has is a sheer emotional drive, a core, and vulnerable characters,” he added. “And of course there’s action, sequence and visuals. But I think the basic core of the movie is emotion. There’s an emotional engine and a currency that I think runs throughout the film. That’s why I invite people to watch the movie.”
