Rebel leader Abu Muhammad al-Julani says Syria is not ready for conflict with Israel.
The leader of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, which carried out a coup in Syria, criticized Israel’s actions in Syria on Saturday. Last weekend, Israel invaded the UN-monitored buffer zone that separates the occupied Golan Heights from Syria.
According to the UN, Israel is violating the truce it signed with Syria in 1974, according to which it had to withdraw from the buffer zone.
– The Israelis have clearly crossed the line of withdrawal in Syria, which could cause a new, unjustified escalation in the region, al-Julani says on the Telegram messaging service.
At the same time, al-Julani says that the group cannot participate in a new conflict “because of the general fatigue caused by years of war”.
Israel has also carried out hundreds of airstrikes in different parts of Syria during the past week.
