A former rebel group in northern Mali, the Tuareg-led CMA alliance, believes it is at war with the military junta that rules the country, according to a statement.
The CMA, which is seeking independence from the Malian state, is calling on residents to “go into the field to contribute to the war effort”.
Tensions have risen as the UN winds down the ten-year peacekeeping mission in Mali, following a request from the military junta that seized power via two coups in 2020 and 2021.
